In 1955 Paolozzi took up a teaching post at St Martins School of Art. During the next three years he developed a new style of sculpture that consisted of encrusted reliefs collaged together, made by pressing a variety of objects into the clay and then pouring wax over the surface. This sort of bricolage was heavily influenced by his exposure to Dubuffet in Paris.
